Kigutu Hospital

Today, 11 years after Village Health Works transformed the mountain village of Kigutu, Burundi into a fulcrum of quality, community-driven health care and education, we have raised more than $15.6 million of the $20 million needed to build the Kigutu Hospital . This 85,000 square foot facility will be a state-of-the-art, 150-bed teaching hospital designed to meet the health needs of the entire community, particularly women and children, thereby improving the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of Burundians.

Kigutu International Academy

The Kigutu International Academy KIA is a boarding school for grades 9-12, located in the lush mountains above Lake Tanganyika on the expansive campus of Village Health Works (VHW). The Academy will open its doors in September 2020 to a diverse group of young boys and girls from across Burundi with strong academic credentials and a demonstrated commitment to improving their community. VHW will provide an unparalleled location for KIA with its beautiful setting, excellent infrastructure and experienced leadership team.

Village Health Works is located in the rural area of Kigutu, 60 miles southwest of the capital city of Bujumbura, and serves a population of approximately 200,000. Our campus is nestled among lush mountains and overlooks Lake Tanganyika, one of the oldest and largest lakes in the world. We strive to provide Burundians with a place of calm and healing in a country that has endured many years of turmoil.
