Where We Work

Location Map

Village Health Works operates in the village of Kigutu in southwestern Burundi, a landlocked nation still recovering from 13 years of civil war (1993-2006). Burundi is a beautiful country, but health statistics are grim and hunger is rampant. In Burundi:

  • 11 million people live in an area the size of Maryland
  • ~ 90% live in rural areas as subsistence farmers
  • 80% live on <$1 a day
  • 63% of children are stunted due to malnutrition
